Teachers change the world on a daily basis—and we need them now more than ever.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects nearly 1.9 million job openings for teachers through 2024. Because of this, Miami University is dedicated to training educators who are committed to innovation, equality, and opportunity. Our students prepare to make change in the classroom, in the curriculum, and in every corner of the globe.
Our full range of award-winning educational options includes teacher education programs that certify teachers for all student levels and content areas as well as a non-licensure Educational Studies major that prepares students for careers in educational policy, legislative, and administrative arenas. You’ll test and prove your skills in various settings, from early observations in the field to our interactive TeachLivE Lab—a mixed-reality teaching environment. You’ll develop a heart for service beyond what any textbook can teach. Miami’s award-winning Urban Cohort offers a community-based approach to teacher education in which students are fully immersed in neighborhoods they plan to serve.
About Miami University
Miami is a medium-sized public university where faculty are hired for their subject matter expertise as well as their enthusiasm for teaching undergraduate students. With its focus on a liberal arts education, Miami is committed to providing a broad-based education through the Global Miami Plan, which allows students to become experts within their field(s) of study while also acquiring skills and competencies such as critical and creative thinking, ethical reasoning, global learning, intercultural knowledge, information literacy, inquiry and analysis, problem-solving, teamwork, and oral and written communication. Our University ensures students have the program choices and resources of a large research university but the personal attention other institutions reserve for their graduate students. We offer flexible plans of study and encourage students to combine multiple majors and minors with cocurricular and extracurricular activities so they can explore new interests and acquire the breadth and depth of experience employers seek. By doing so, we foster a culture that nurtures creativity, embraces change, and is invigorated by new ideas and challenges.
Students thrive at Miami University because the path to success looks different for everyone, and students are encouraged to define and pursue their own distinctive paths.
