Greatness from small beginnings
Since its founding in 1935, Hofstra has grown from one central house to 117 buildings across a stunning 244-arce campus. In that time, the University has achieved recognition as an institution of academic excellence.
Hofstra has 38 academic accreditations and 41 total accreditations and consistently earns recognition on the “Best Colleges” lists of U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review, Fiske Guide to Colleges, PayScale College ROI and Salary Reports, and Forbes magazine.
Historically, Hofstra is the only university to host three presidential debates in 2008, 2012, and 2016.
Campus life and beyond
Campus life at Hofstra is sprawling, extending to 21 NCAA Division I athletic teams; 21 local/national fraternities and sororities; and over 200 clubs and organizations to ensure there is something for just about everyone. Students may choose to live in one of Hofstra's 35 residence halls, each with its own unique flair.
Hofstra hosts hundreds of social, academic, and cultural events each year, drawing together scholars, business leaders, authors, celebrities, healthcare professionals, politicians, and journalists from across the nation and around the world.
The David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex is home to the Hofstra Pride men’s and women’s basketball team and the men’s wrestling team. The 93,000-sq. ft. facility also serves as a primary site for graduation ceremonies, exhibitions, trade shows, and televised political events.
Other recreational facilities include an indoor, Olympic-size swimming pool; a state-of-the-art fitness center; and various athletic fields.
