It’s almost summertime! Time to finish up the school year, relax, and get on with your summer plans. Do those plans include searching for scholarships to help pay for college? They should! It may seem like a chore, but this stretch of free time is the perfect opportunity to dedicate some energy to finding and applying for scholarships that will lessen your higher education–related financial burdens. Scholarships for high school students
- Stuck at Prom Scholarship: High school students can use their creativity to win money for college by creating a prom outfit entirely out of duct tape. US and Canadian legal residents (excluding those from Maryland, Colorado, Vermont, Nebraska, and North Dakota) ages 14 and older are eligible to enter this contest. Grand prizes and runners-up will be awarded for best dress and tuxedo, along with three of the top 10 finalists in the new “Runway Worthy,” “Most Inspiring,” and “Trust E.’s Choice” categories. Awards: Up to $15,000; Deadline: June 5
- The Fountainhead Essay Contest: Inspired by Ayn Rand’s novel The Fountainhead, this contest is for middle and high school students worldwide ages 13 or older. It requires reading the novel and writing an essay about it, and applicants can use the cash prize as they wish. Awards: Up to $25,000; Deadline: June 7
- Ocean Awareness Contest: Open to students ages 11–18 in middle and high school worldwide, this contest sponsored by Bow Seat asks applicants to submit some original art or creative communication such as handcrafted or digital visual art, poetry and spoken word, creative writing, film, music and dance, or interactive multimedia. This year’s theme is “Tell Your Climate Story. Junior and senior divisions will be awarded, and students can participate as individuals or as part of a club, class, or group of any size. Awards: Up to $1,500; Deadline: June 10
- Angels Wings Thai Scholarship, United States: Thai American high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence (including a 3.0 GPA), concern for their Thai community, and a connection with their heritage should apply for this scholarship. Applicants must submit an essay and be entering an accredited school in the fall. Awards: Up to $10,000; Deadline: June 14
- Breakthrough Junior Challenge: This is an annual global competition for students ages 13–18 to inspire creative thinking about science. Applicants must create a short video (two minutes max) to explain a big idea in physics, math, or the life sciences. Films can take any form, including animation, talking head, documentary, dramatic reconstruction, etc. The winner will receive a post-secondary scholarship as well as a generous prize for their teacher. Award: $250,000+; Deadline: June 25
- CollegeXpress Scholarship for Students of Color: If you’re a POC student who’s a US citizen and 13 years or older, you’re eligible for this scholarship contest. Just answer the following question in one sentence: What is your dream career to pursue after high school? You’ll be entered to win $1,500, plus have $500 donated to a charity of your choice. This contest is offered once every quarter. Award: $2,000; Deadline: June 30 (as well as September 30, December 31, and March 31)
Scholarships for high school and undergraduate students
- Employment BOOST Academic Scholarship: This scholarship is open to US high school seniors as well as two- and four-year college students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher. Applicants may be pursuing any major, but one of two scholarships awarded will be given to a student pursuing Business or STEM fields. Applicants must submit an essay between 500–1,000 words. Awards: $1,000; Deadline: Accepted year-round on a rolling basis
- 10x Digital Marketing Scholarship: This is a great opportunity for high school seniors and undergraduate students pursuing degrees related to digital marketing, including Business, Technology, Marketing, and Communications. Applicants must submit a 500-word essay on their life story, intended field of study/career, and how they plan to make an impact on the world. Award: $4,000; Deadline: June 1
- NVM Scholarships: The National Videogame Museum offers multiple scholarship opportunities that are open to high school and undergraduate students pursuing careers in gaming or technology-based fields. Four of the scholarships are limited to Texas residents, while two are open to female students across the US. Awards: Up to $5,000; Deadline: June 1
- AmericanTrucks Scholarship: Students who attend a technical institute full-time; are completing a two- or four-year degree in traditional building trades and construction management fields; are pursuing certificate or apprenticeship programs; or are high school seniors with plans to attend any of these programs are eligible to apply if they’re over 18 years old. An essay of 750–1,500 words is required. Award: $2,500; Deadline: June 15 (and October 15)
- ExtremeTerrain Student Scholarship: High school seniors and undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Environmental Studies, Ecology, Land Use, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, Sustainable Land Management, Environmental Biology, Sustainable Agricultural Systems, or Parks & Recreation are eligible for this scholarship, which is offered twice a year. Applicants must submit an essay of 700–1,500 words on why recreational use of public lands is important. Award: $2,500; Deadline: June 15 (and October 15)
- Micklin Law Group Educational Scholarship: This need-based scholarship is open to accepted and enrolled students at accredited US colleges. Just complete the online form and provide a statement about your greatest strength and weakness while explaining why the scholarship will have a significant impact on being able to pursue your dreams. Two awards are available, with one awarded per semester to different students. Award: $1,000; Deadline: June 30
Scholarships for undergraduate students
- GCSAA Scholars Competition: Current undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours and are pursuing a major related to turf management can apply for these awards. Applicants must be members of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) and exhibit work experience, extracurricular involvement, and academic excellence. First place is awarded along with 10–15 other scholarships and 10 merit winners. Awards: Up to $6,000; Deadline: June 1
- Allan MacCurrach Jr. Award: Students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or technical program related to golf course management and turfgrass science are eligible for this award, also sponsored by the GCSAA. Applicants must be at least 23 years old to enter, submit an essay, and plan for a career as a golf course superintendent or other closely related discipline. The winner will also receive an all-expense-paid trip to the annual GCSAA Conference and Trade Show. Award: $10,000; Deadline: June 1
- John Gatling Grant: This grant was established by Raleigh businessman John Gatling for NC State University students who have the surname “Gatling” or “Gatlin.” Applicants must provide a copy of their birth certificate confirming their surname at birth as Gatlin or Gatling (no other spelling is accepted). Recipients must also maintain full-time undergraduate enrollment (with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester) and a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA. Awards: Amount not disclosed; Deadline: June 1
- SMA Native American STEM Scholarship: This scholarship is offered to current Native American college students who are pursuing four-year degrees in STEM fields. Applicants must be members of a Pueblo or Tribe and be committed to completing at least four hours of community service per academic year, among other requirements. The scholarship is automatically renewed for up to four academic years. Award: $1,500 per year; Deadline: June 7
- WIA Foundation Scholarship: Sponsored by the Women in Aerospace (WIA) Foundation, this merit-based scholarship is offered to rising juniors or seniors in college who identify as women; are pursuing bachelor’s degrees in Engineering, Math, or Science; and have an interest in a future career in aerospace. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents and have a 3.0 minimum GPA. Four recipients will be chosen. Awards: $5,000; Deadline: June 18
- Media Fellows Scholarship: This opportunity is open to all students currently enrolled in college who are interested in advertising and public policy, including but not limited to Marketing, Communications, Business, Political Science, and Strategic Media. An essay and letter of recommendation are required, and finalists must also do a phone interview. Junior and senior undergraduates are highly encouraged to apply. Awards: Amounts not disclosed; Deadline: June 30
Scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students
- SBB Research Group STEM Scholarship: Students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate STEM programs full-time at a college or university in the US are eligible for this scholarship, including international students. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and submit an essay of 500 words or fewer on their most significant STEM experiences and how they'll use STEM principles to improve the world. A total of 12 scholarships are available throughout the year, with one awarded each month. Award: $2,500; Deadline: None; applications accepted year-round and reviewed on a quarterly basis
- 180 Medical Scholarship: This scholarship is open to full-time college students living with specific medical conditions, including spinal cord injuries, spina bifida, transverse myelitis, neurogenic bladder, or an ostomy. Applicants must be US residents and accepted to a two-year, four-year, or graduate program for the coming fall (students enrolled in medical school may not apply). Seven scholarships are available annually. Awards: $1,000; Deadline: June 1
- Collegiate Beef Advocacy Program: This unique opportunity to gain experience in the beef industry provides a scholarship to each team member upon completion of a year of service. Applicants must provide a biography of 250 words or less, an essay of 300 words or less, an on-campus advocacy plan, a social media advocacy plan, a video illustrating their advocacy for the beef industry, two letters of recommendation, and certifications from completing a free Master’s of Beef Advocacy and Beef Quality Assurance training. Awards: $2,000; Deadline: June 1
- CIRI Foundation Scholarship: Alaskan natives who are original enrollees of the Cook Inlet Region or direct lineal descendants should look into this opportunity. Applicants must be enrolled in an associate, bachelor's, master’s, or doctoral program and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. There are two awards available: one for a full-time student and one for part-time. The CIRI Foundation also offers several other scholarship opportunities, including the Cap Lathrop Endowment Scholarship Fund (due June 30) and the Jump Start Award (rolling deadline). Awards: Up to $6,000; Deadline: June 1
- Iranian-American Scholarship Fund: If you’re a full-time undergraduate sophomore or above or a non-PhD graduate student of Iranian heritage, you’re eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA, demonstrate commitment to community service, and be a US citizen. Please note: The scholarship committee does not accept online applications, and all printed materials must be mailed and postmarked by the deadline. Award: Amount not disclosed; Deadline: June 1
- Arkansas Rural Health Scholarship: This award was created by Dr. Rhys Branman to support, empower, and encourage medical students in Arkansas who are interested in practicing medicine in rural areas of the state. Applicants must be current state residents pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree or career path in a medicine-related field at an institution of higher learning in Arkansas. The scholarship will be disbursed directly to the student in the form of a cash prize. Award: $2,500; Deadline: June 2
- Doug Murphy Law Firm, PC Criminal Justice Scholarship: Fourth-year college and graduate students who are dedicated to making a positive impact in the field of criminal law should apply for this award. Applicants must be US residents or permanent citizens 18 years or older and enrolled full-time in an accredited Law program within the United States. GPA and an essay on how to improve the criminal justice system will also be considered when reviewing applications. Award: $1,000; Deadline: June 3
- APTF Scholarship: This scholarship is open to current college sophomores, juniors, and seniors as well as those seeking advanced degrees. Applicants must be enrolled in a fully accredited institution, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in coursework that’s relevant to the public transportation industry, and demonstrate a strong interest in entering the field. Sponsorship by a member organization of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is required for returning applicants; first-time applicants are not required to obtain a sponsor. At least 30 scholarships are available. Awards: Up to $12,000; Deadline: June 6
- NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship: This program is open to postgraduate college students who are former athletes or current undergraduates in their final year of competition. Applicants must have a minimum 3.2 GPA and be enrolled or planning to enroll in a graduate program. This scholarship is awarded three times a year for fall, winter, and spring sports. Awards: $10,000; Deadline: June 7 (as well as January 8 and April 1)
- Unlimited Lights Scholarship: In addition to reliable emergency lighting solutions, Unlimited Lights offers a $1,000 scholarship to a full-time student enrolled at an accredited college in the US. Applicants must be legal residents of the 50 states or the District of Columbia and be at least 18 years old at the time of entry. The recipient is chosen based on the quality of their essay (between 800–1,250 words) on one of three prompts related to emergency lighting. Award: $1,000; Deadline: June 28
- Harriet Irsay Scholarship: Sponsored by the American Institute of Polish Culture, this scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are US citizens pursuing any area of study. Preference is given to those of Polish heritage or who are interested or involved in Polish-related issues. Around 10–15 students typically receive this grant, which is awarded based on merit. The same application can also be used to apply for the Lennox Family Award for Excellence. Awards: $2,000; Deadline: June 30
- Charles J. Argento Scholarship: Students who plan to become attorneys should apply for this scholarship. Applicants must be US citizens or legal residents who are authorized to work, be accepted to a US university as a Pre-law undergraduate or attending law school, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. A one-to-three-page typed essay on the subject matter related to the area of law you intend to pursue is also required. Award: $500; Deadline: June 30
- 1st Financial Bank Financial Goals Scholarship: This is a monthly scholarship open to US residents who are 18 or older and planning to enroll or are currently enrolled in a college degree program. This is a random drawing, but it does require you to submit a short essay of 500 words or fewer. Award: $2,000; Deadline: June 30 (last day of every month)
Scholarships for graduate students and postgrad professionals
- Women in Finance Scholarship: Sponsored by Numerix, this scholarship aims to encourage and support talented women in the field of finance, particularly those pursuing careers in financial asset management, market risk management, fixed-income, and derivatives finance within the capital markets. Applicants must be female citizens of any country who are attending a master's or PhD program in Finance full-time at an accredited university. Half of the award is paid directly to the winner, and the other half is paid to the educational institution to directly assist with tuition. Award: $20,000; Deadline: June 14
- Josh Gottheil Memorial Stem Cell Transplant Career Development Award: This scholarship is for currently employed registered nurses working in stem cell or bone marrow transplantation. Applicants must have been in nursing for at least a year and use the award to attend a career development program or conference. An essay of 500 words or ewer is required. Award: Up to $2,000; Deadline: June 15
- I/ITEC Scholarships: These graduate scholarships are open to master’s and doctoral-level students pursuing educational programs in Engineering; Operations Research, Systems Analysis, and Mathematics; Distance Learning Methodologies; Human Factors (Psychology or Engineering); Instructional Design and Training Methodology; and Computer and Information Sciences. Applicants must also be pursuing a career in the modeling and simulation, training, and/or education industry. Awards: $5,000 for master’s programs, $10,000 for doctoral; Deadline: June 21
Scholarships for (basically) everyone
- JASNA Essay Contest: Sponsored by the Jane Austin Society of North America, this essay contest is open to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students worldwide. This year’s essay topic focuses on the relevancy of Jane Austen’s novels after 200 years and requires quotations and examples from Austen’s work. JASNA membership is not required to enter the contest, which offers prizes for first, second, and third place. Awards: Up to $1,000; Deadline: June 1
- Native Forward Scholars Fund Scholarships: The Native Forward Scholars Fund provides multiple scholarships for high school, undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and professional program students. Applicants must be able to prove their Tribal affiliation to be eligible. Awards: Amounts vary; Deadline: June 1 (for most scholarships)
- Joe Francis Haircare Scholarship: For students pursuing a different academic path in cosmetology or barber school, this annual scholarship is a great opportunity that will likely have less competition. You may apply whether you’re currently applying for admission or already enrolled in a program. Awards: At least $3,000; Deadline: June 1
- Leaders Save Lives Scholarships: This scholarship from the American Red Cross is more of a challenge and is open to high school and college students, including those enrolled at trade schools or community colleges. Applicants must organize a blood drive during designated time frames, and depending on how many pints you collect, you’ll earn varying gift card awards and entries into scholarship drawings. Awards: Up to $200 in gift card awards and up to $2,500 in scholarship drawings; Time frames: June 1–August 31 (and December 15–January 15)
- Ascent Shining Stars Scholarship Giveaway: To enter to win this scholarship, all you have to do is follow @AscentFunding on Instagram, like the scholarship post, leave a comment sharing how you plan to pay for college (tag a friend and use #AscentSponsored too!), and complete the application form on their website. Applicants must be 14 years or older, legal US residents (DACA students included), and enrolled in a full- or part-time degree or technical skills training program. Parents of these students are also eligible to apply. Award: $1,000; Deadline: June 3
- PixelPlex Bi-Annual STEM Scholarship: This non-need-based STEM scholarship is open to enrolled or accepted students who are pursuing STEM, Economics, or Business degrees. Applicants must be citizens of permanent residents of the US and write a compelling essay on one of four provided industry topics. The money is sent directly to the winner, not to their school. Award: $2,000; Deadline: June 5 (and December 5)
- Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship: This scholarship is open to students of all educational levels who have struggled with mental health or have a family member who has struggled. Two winners will be chosen based on essays of 200–1,000 words on how their experience with mental health has shaped their goals, relationships, and understanding of the world. Awards: $3,100; Deadline: June 13
- Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest: This other Ayn Rand contest is open to all high school, college, and graduate students worldwide. Essays about the novel should be between 800–1,600 words and must be written in English. Awards: Up to $25,000; Deadline: June 14
- Larry Powell Scholarship: This opportunity aims to help talented underrepresented demographic golf course management individuals achieve their dreams of pursuing or furthering their careers. Applicants must be members of the GCSAA (or be interested in becoming one) and represent an underserved population. Preference is given to needs-based applicants with consideration for demonstrated leadership skills and community engagement. A letter of recommendation from a superintendent, academic advisor, or employer is required. Award: Amount not disclosed; Deadline: June 15
- Innovation in Education Scholarship: This monthly scholarship is open to high school, college, and graduate students who write an essay on an innovative project they’ve designed that makes a difference in the lives of others. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a US or Canadian citizen. Award: $500; Deadline: June 20 (same date every month)
- Young Filmmakers Contest: This contest is open to basically all students, from third grade all the way to postgraduate with an age cap of 25. All applicants are required to submit a short film or video about environmentalism. Award categories include elementary school, middle school, high school, senior year and college, animation/stop-motion, creativity award, and postgraduate. Contest entries may be submitted by an individual or by a group of any size. Awards: Up to $1,000; Deadline: June 25
- ScholarshipOwl No Essay Scholarship: ScholarshipOwl is offering $50,000 in scholarships to 50 lucky winners over the course of the year. Four winners will be selected each month to win $1,000 each, with two additional winners selected in December. Applicants must be residents of the US (Rhode Island and Michigan excluded); Washington, DC; or a US territory. You must also be 16 years or older and enrolled (or plan to be enrolled within three months of the drawing) at a qualified US high school, college, or university. Awards: $1,000; Deadline: June 29

- Because College is Expensive Scholarship: This scholarship hits the nail on the head with the title. High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors as well as current college students and individuals looking to attend graduate school are all eligible. - Momeni Foundation Scholarships: One of these scholarships is available for high school seniors of any race, and the other is for graduating high school, undergraduate, or graduate students of Iranian descent. The Scholastic Achievement Scholarship offers at least three awards per year, while the Financial Assistance Scholarship is awarded to 10 students. Awards: $1,000; Deadline: June 30
- Too Cool to Pay for School Scholarship: This scholarship sweepstakes is easy to enter and open to high school, college, and graduate students of all levels who are US residents or DACA, undocumented, or international studying in the US. - MyMozaic Scholarship: This monthly scholarship sweepstakes is open to US citizens who are 13 years and older. All you have to do is provide your email address to apply. Selection is based on the quality of your MyMozaic profile, including documents, photos, videos, and followers. Award: $1,000; Deadline: June 30 (last day of every month)
- ScholarshipPoints $2,500 Monthly Scholarship: With multiple drawings held each month, your chances of receiving this award (and your odds of qualifying for additional scholarships) are increased by taking surveys, reading blogs, and other easy activities on ScholarshipPoints.com. Students of all levels are eligible but must create a free account and be at least 13 years old, a US citizen or legal permanent resident, and currently attending (or planning to attend) a college in the US. ScholarshipPoints also awards three monthly $1,000 scholarships, which equals 36 different scholarship opportunities available within one year for members. - $2,000 Sally Mae Scholarship Sweepstakes: Sallie Mae offers an easy scholarship contest that both students and parents can enter each month.
